Housing Co-op

Deeds not empty words. As well as a musical movement, 12 tone is a cultural movement. We are raising money to build a self-sufficient housing co-operative in London.

Article one

Firstly, I’d like to point out that this is an in-tangible, abstract idea or concept that bears little, or no relationship with reality, other than that which we give it. There are many ways in which it is flawed, but this is what it is.

12 Tone is the 21st century re-incarnation of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2Tone 2-Tone (click link if you don’t know). The Difference being, 12 tone not only fuses british music with Jamaican music, but with Afro-funk, other “world” musics and modern dance musics such as Jungle and House.

This 12-Tone is not the music of Arnold " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-tone_technique" Schoenberg. Schoenberg pioneered the 12-tone technique. His music has been defined as serialism.

We have appropriated the term 12 Tone and given it a new, diferent meaning.

Some liken it to Jazz.

Nina Simone, “Jazz is a term invented by white people to describe Black Music, Black classical music. It’s a derogatory term they used to describe something they didn’t understand.”

We have decided not to use any existing genres or boxes because of there limitations. We believe the world we live in has become far to polarized. Polarized between the urban and the rural, the diatonic and the atonal, between the rich and the poor and between the fair skinned and the not so fair skinned. We are one race, one people. It is time to remember who we are. Some of us have already reached this cultural promised land, its time the mainstream caught up. The Old Stereotypes no longer fit. They are restricting our imagination. Its time to create a new identity, based on a new paradigm.

Yes, it is a contradiction. In the pursuit of escaping boxes, we have created a new one. That is the paradox of existence, or so it seems.

Part 2 coming soon………..
